Friends of Silver Creek School (2015-2017)

Friends of Silver Creek School began as a working group comprised of Richmond Gardens’ residents advocating on behalf of the Silver Creek Pre-School (SCPS) and The Etobicoke Children’s Centre.

At its inception, the committee’s focus was to preserve the vital programs operating out of Silver Creek School at the Silver Creek location as part of a vibrant community hub including the adjacent green space linked to Silver Creek Park.

After approximately 2 years of advocacy to ensure a positive outcome, on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 Mitzie Hunter, Minister of Education, and Sophie Kiwala, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Children and Youth Services, were joined by Etobicoke Centre MPP Yvan Baker at Silver Creek Pre-School in Etobicoke to announce that Silver Creek School and the attached green space was in the process of being transferred from the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) to the province.

This remarkable and long awaited decision has ensured that programs and services which serve children with physical, developmental and mental health needs and autism will continue to operate and remain on-site in our community providing services to children from all over the Greater Toronto Area.

The status of the transfer of property was confirmed in June 2018.

Moving forward, Friends of Silver Creek School will be known as Friends of Silver Creek.
